WOYWW...

Did this fool say something about work being quiet?  Since we were here last week everyone came out of the woodwork :-)

My sewing rail has filled and emptied and filled again.

I've had 6 bridesmaids  here for fittings...3 in the lovely champage colour.  One of them has already been collected.  I've had several pair of trousers to shorten and the shirt on the left is a gents shirt that he wants an extra 6" adding to the bottom...he's brought the fabric so I will probably be doing that today.....another challenge.

I did fittings on three bridesmaids dresses in this lovely lemon colour and I've shortened them all and they are now waiting in their boxes to be collected today....they are stretchy but wont crease so not the easiest to work on.

Both the champagne and the lemon dresses are all in different styles to suit each of the bridesmaids and they looked really lovely.

The only other thing that's on my desk today is a project basket.  I'm making a special lap quilt using bright colours for a special young lady.

I'm hoping to add pockets with hidden 'little friends' and noisy toys to stimulate her.....watch this space.

That's all from me for this week.  I hope you've all had a lovely week and are coping with the heat.

Hugs,

WOYWW.....

Hello all.  I hope you've had a good week.

We had another long weekend away on a beautiful campsite near Buxton in Staffordshire.  Last Thursday night I started with vertigo and all night the room was spinning...it eventually went by Monday morning just in time for us to come home!!! but I didn't let it spoil the weekend....I just took my walking stick with me to steady me a little when walking.

I had cleared my sewing rail before going away so yesterday I spent my day making a Fidgety quilt...they are for use for people with Altzeimers which is something close to my heart as we have just lost a much loved family member who suffered many years with the awful disease.

Each square has an activity on that can be fiddled with and I'm really hoping it will help with the agitation that they often suffer with.

The other thing I'm sharing today is this lovely post that was put on the page of the charity I support, The Harry Johnson Trust.

I had really enjoyed using the fabric I had been given to fill a box with goodies to sell at local shows and was thrilled to bits to hand over the £170 that I had already raised by selling items prior to handing the box over.....every little helps.

That's it from me for today.  I will do my best to pop over to yours to see what you've been up to this week in between making the Memory bears that are due to arrive this morning.

Hugs,

Annie xxx

WOYWW...

Here we are at our weekly catch up with our creative friends from all round the world....have I mentioned that it's my favourite day of the week?

I'm not sure my feet have touched the ground since we were here last week and last week ended on a high...

I was asked to make a Memory elephant in memory of a life long school friend.  The clothes that came for me to make it from lended themselves to a really special elephant.  The lady it was in memory of loved her costume jewellery and the centre of one of her neclaces fit across the front to perfection.....I think this has to be up there with my favourites.

I've even managed to find a little time to make the 9 squares for my next Fidgety quilt....just got to find time to make them up into a quilt now :-)

Phoebe and Lulu have spent some time sewing this week.

Lulu made herself a Minion pincushion.

Phoebe made herself a new hair scrunchie.

I get such a thrill knowing they choose to spend time using their sewing machine and creating.

That's all from me for today.  I will do my best to pop over to all I can.  I hope you're all well and finding time to be happy creating something special.

Hugs,

WOYWW...

Hi all I'm just back from a long weekend away making memories with many members of my family ...the weather was very mixed and we certainly had our share of rain but it didn't stop us enjoying special times together.....more of that on Friday.

You're here to see my desk today so here goes....

This is what is waiting for me on my desk this morning....another huge bin bag full of factory trousers to replace the zips in....I shall be calling in my hubby to help me remove a few zips and, all being well, they will soon be done.

I also have these special items of clothing to make a Memory bear in memory of a much loved Grandad and I have a dressing gown coming later today to make 2 Memory bears for another customer.

The other thing sitting on my desk this week is a few more squares to make my next Fidgety Quilt....in my favourite colours.

Of course these will wait until I've done all my customer's sewing before I sew for fun.

So that's it from me for this week.  If you leave me a little message I will do my best to pop over to yours ASAP...but work must come first.

Hugs,

Annie x

WOYWW...

Here we are at another catch up with our blogging friends all over the world...I love Wednesdays :-)

I've not had much work this week although I did have some more Parkas to sew badges on....it seems that this is now a regular job for me as the lady that used to do them is now in poor health.

I have used my free time well and have finished the fidgety quilt that you saw I had started last week and...

...cut out and made another one.  I am trying to make a few that are suitable for men or women because, of course, Alzeimer's is something that both men and women get.

I will say there is another one cut out ready to get creative with but this time it's pink/purple.

I have a Memory bear coming this morning so my creative sewing will have to wait for more free time.  If you leave me a little message I will do my best to pop over to yours to see what you've got to share this week.

WOYWW...

Enough said....We're just not used to it are we?

I'm pleased to say we have a fan in almost every room and haven't we needed it this week?  I've still got something to share with you though...

I had such a lot of really lovely comments when I made the Fidgety Quilt for my family member who is suffering from Altzeimer's that I decided to make a couple for the folk who don't sew and who has loved ones in the same situation. This is the first one and....

...here's the first completed squares for the next one.  I have always saved anything useful for 'whenever' so I have enjoyed sorting through to find anything that can be twiddled with to make each quilt different....and of course I'm stitching everything on very securely.

On Monday I had used all three of my machines and thought they would all appreciate a little TLC in this heat so I cleaned out all the fluff [and I do make rather a lot of it!] and gave each of them a spray with lubricant on their working parts....I swear I heard them sigh :-)

I hope you are all keeping cool and drinking plenty in this heat ...and no I don't mean gin!! [you know who I mean ;-)].

WOYWW...

I've not got a lot to show you this week cos we had a couple of nights away testing out our new caravan.  We went to the super site we went to last time in Llanidloes...it's not too far from home and was a good place to trial everything out...the result was that we are thrilled with our new purchase and planning many more trips now :-)

So I thought you'd like to see the results of my lastest teddy  refurbishment....

He enjoyed his wash and once dry I restuffed him and made him new feet and hands.  Then, when his new eyes arrived, I was then able to give him a new face and finished him off with his new new red ribbon.

I'm thrilled with his new appearance and so is my darling hubby :-)

The only other thing I have to show you today is this fat quarter pack that fell into my trolley at Aldis....I'm seeing a new Fidgety quilt in the making...just not any time soon cos I have about 6 customers coming today and each of them are bringing several jobs for me to do [and one of them is wanting 2 memory bears making].

This is what happens when you take a Monday off so I'm not complaining and there will be spare time at some point in the not too distance future for creative sewing.  If you leave me a little message I will do my best to pop over to yours ASAP...it just might not be today lol

Hugs,

WOYWW....

Hello all and a happy Wednesday to each of you.  I love my Wednesday catch ups.  Please pop over to Julia's blog at The Stamping Ground where you will find details and be made very welcome if you wanted to join in the fun each week.

So what has been going on here at Sewing by Annie's this week?

Here's the latest little School Memory Owl I've made this week....and I have many orders now waiting for the school term to end so I can use the old school uniform.

I know many of you have seen my finished Fidgety Quilt on my Sewing by Annie Facebook page [because many of you have left me lovely comments and I thank you for those] but for those that haven't seen it there here it is.

Alzeimers is such an awful thing and I'm sure many are like me in feeling pretty helpless to do anything to make the situation easier so I'm hoping a little of Annie's love will go a little way to help.

After seeing what I managed to do with the last little teddy bear I had in my care my hubby gave me his old teddy to do something with....it's looking very old and tired and been kept in a box so anything would be better than nothing  :-)

I've ordered two new glass eyes, removed all the straw type stuffing and given him a gentle wash so far and already he's  looking better.  I will show you how I get on soon.

I hope you have enjoyed your visit and will leave me a little message so I know you've called by.  I will pay you a return visit as soon as I'm able.  Have a great week.

Hugs,

WOYWW...

What a week it's been since last Wednesday.  The work has been pouring it and this week it came with more challenges.  Many of you will have seen this in my Facebook page but for those that haven't meet Fred...

He is a much loved little teddy that had been in a fight with a labrador puppy and sadly he came off worse.  I was given instructions to keep as much as I could exactly how he was and not to wash/clean him.

I started by removing his head and rebuilding all I could.  I had to give him new eyes because one had been ripped out and the other was well chewed.  His muzzle was missing so I had to make him a new one and then embroider a nose to match his old one.....quite a challenge eh?

Here he is finished...and I have to say I was well chuffed with the results.....and so was his owner.

I love my job.  :-)

My to do rail hasn't been this full for months.

I've...

  • shortened 9 pair of trousers
  • shortened a lined skirt
  • rapaired a jacket and
  • sewn 6 badges on 2 parka coats.
No memory bears this week but I do have very many on their way to me in the up and coming weeks with it being the end of the school year and lots are wanting school bears making [but of course the children are still wearing their uniforms].

On my desk today is an ongoing project that I'm working on in my spare time [yes I do get a bit lol].  I'm making what I am calling a Fidgety Quilt.  It's for a family member with Altzeimers and I'm hoping it will give her something to fiddle with when she needs to....of course I am loving fiddling with it yet.

Hope you have had a fun week.  I will pop over to yours ASAP and hopefully be able to leave you a little message.
Hugs,
Annie x
