WOYWW....

Oh it's been an eventful week here at Sewing by Annie's.  I've had lots to make me smiles going on and have also been in the wars when a ladder slipped and landed on the bridge of my nose!....its very tender and bruised but I'm sure I will live :-)

The smiles will be kept for my Friday post so come back to check out what's been making me smile.

On my desk this week are....

I've finished a quilt I was asked to make.  My customer and I were able to discuss fabrics via messenger because he isn't local to me so it's exactly as requested including the little robin appliqued on the one corner square.

Here Jo is checking out a parcel of Laura Ashley fabric samples sent to us from Margaret and we have decided to challenge each other to make something with them....just to see what we can each come up with.

For now I am working on another of my Memory bears....this one is being made from stretchy, fleecy, fluffy fabric so it's come with many challenges....and I'm loving making it so far.

Thanks for dropping by today.  If you leave me a little message I will do my best to pay you a return visit and if you can then call in on Friday to see what's been making me smile....plus I have a special visitor dropping by today too.  :-)
Hugs,
Annie x

This week's smiles.....week 43 and a little quiz :-)

Hello folks.  Another manic week for me ...how about you?

We had lots of you joining in the fun last week and today I am featuring the melted bats that Janet shared and the cat in the bat cave that Jan shared....they sort of went well together  with it being near Halloween  :-)
Well done girls and thanks for sharing them.

This week had three busy twinnie munchkin days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the pic I am sharing today was taken at lunchtime on Tuesday....It's a bit of an 'eat up quick while you are still awake' snap.  My little munchkins are up at silly o'clock to come to Nanny Annie's in time for their Mummy and Daddy to go to work and as you can see it has to be an early lunch before their naps.....doesn't Sam look so cute here?

I am also giving you something to think about this week.  I am given all sorts of challenges during my sewing days and this week has been no exception.  The only clues I am giving you are...
  • The customer was male and of working age
  • He uses one of these during his working day
  • I have to make him two....one to use and one to wash as a spare[ yes he will get it dirty :-) ]
  • on the left is the paper pattern I have made...it takes two of these to make it.
  • on the right is the calico fabric I am to make it with

I would like you to have a guess at what I'm making.  I will be choosing the best guess...if not the right answer then it will be the guess that makes me laugh most....and I just might find a little something as a thank you gift to send to you.  Go on put your thinking caps on and let me know what you come up with.  I will give it a couple of weeks and will post a pic of the finished item with the name of the winner.

Now I want you to snap something that has made you smile this week and share it with all of us by linking below.  Thanks for joining in the fun and making the world a happier place to be.

Hugs,
Annie x

Moo....ve over bears...

Muddyboots left me a comment on my blog asking whether I make black and white cows. Well, I hadn't before but I love a challenge and this is what I've made. She is hand felted and sits about 3 1/2" tall to the top of her horns. Let me know if this is what you are looking for Muddyboots. :-)

What it is to be a Mum.....

My daughter came home from school yesterday with the news that it's 'that' time of year again. It's Book Week and on Friday they all have to go dressed as their favourite book character! Last year it was 'Sponge bob square pants' the year before it was 'Cat in the hat'. This year it just HAD to be 'The Gruffalo'! :-) Well, as you will possibly know by now, I love a challenge so we set to. A brown fur fabric tabard had purple sharp spikes stitched on the back. A hair band was covered with brown felt and had ears and horns stitched to it. A pair of slippers had brown paws stitched on the front with sharp white claws glued on each toe. A pair of black shorts for modesty and a pair of brown tights had to have wrinkly grey knees stitched to the fronts of each leg. Then it was on to the face paints....orange eyes and a purple wart on her nose were drawn on and fangs and teeth will finish the look. Her hair will be back combed for the 'wild look'. Wow she looked perfect.....AND SHE IS THE TEACHER!!

'Waistcoat' update. It needs a name?....

For those interested my special gent came back yesterday afternoon just after lunch. My instructions were to text him on his mobile when I'd finished it :-) He was thrilled I'd worked so fast and was pretty blown away at the finished article. I had narrowed the front so it was only the width of the pockets [as instructed :-) ] so judging the finished length the back strap needed to be was difficult. On trying it on this strap was a little too short so that the front couldn't come round far enough so, me being me, I just cut it mid back with my scissors and between us we worked out exactly how long it was needed to be. His face dropped a little when I did this 'cos, as you can imagine, he was thinking he would no longer be able to take it home with him. I left him 'playing' with it, taking books off my shelves and trying them in the lower pockets and his mobile phone in the top pockets. They fit perfectly [of course :-) ]. While he was stood looking at himself in my full length mirror and admiring his new 'toy' I quickly found some more matching material and cut out a new, longer strap. Much to his amazement I then set up the sewing machine and ironing board and made his new strap. We fitted it and I stitched it in place. He was delighted and, just like a child with new shoes, he decided to leave it on to go home. I always walk him safely to his car and on this occasion I was to go with him to look at the leather he had bought to make the final one with. It's a beautiful tan hide and I'm sure will make a lovely job. He is giving this one a good trial run for a week or more before we attack the leather and his leaving words with a huge smile on his face were "I shall wear mine and get you sales for lots more". Watch this space. :-)
I need a name for it now so put your thinking caps on please.
