WOYWW....

It's been a week of different desks for me for this show and tell....

These were the two bears lying on my desk last week....now finished

And these two were the ones that had just arrived in a parcel....aren't they gorgeous with their little pockets and love hearts on their fronts?

They were for two sisters and were to be the same but different if you know what I mean :-)

I've kept seeing Jan's gorgeous watercolour painting over on her desk and every time I've seen it I've longed  to get my paints out to have a go.....it's been very much a case of I've got all the gear but it's been such a long time since I did any painting I'm still very much at the have a go stage.....but loving it :-)

I bought a new pen to put detail on my paintings and was rather pleased with my first [in years!] attempt....it can hopefully only get better.

My next desk was at the sewing machine where I made two more rather lovely Memory bears in memory of a much loved Nan and Grandad....I love that they are linked by the colour purple....one of my fav colours.

I then had to deep clean out my sewing room and damp dust all my surfaces ready for the opening up for fittings on Monday....I wouldn't want them seeing the state it gets into when no one is looking ;-)

And this is what it was being cleaned for....Monday morning saw my first Wedding dress fitting needing alterations for over 12 months....and it was soooooo lovely to get back to a little closer to the norm.

Plus today I have another bride with two bridesmaids coming so wahoooooo  I'm one happy bunny.

I hope you will leave me a little comment so I know you've called by and as soon as I get a minute I will do my best to pop over to yours to see what you've been up to this week.

Hugs,

WOYWW...

Phew....it's been another of those weeks when there's been lots of change and not a lot on my desk that I can really share with you except this....

I've finished the little hoody and made a start with a little cardigan in a cream wool with pretty flecks of colour.....looking good so far :-)

My other 'work desk' for this week has been the living room.  We have put a plain wallpaper on three walls and the fire place wall is now a feature wall with the poppy wallpaper on it....you all know how much I love poppies don't you?
We have new matching red curtains now too and we both really love how our new home is taking shape.

I have other really exciting news to share with you too.  Yesterday I went for an interview at a Wedding dress shop that is opening a few miles from us.  They were looking for a seamstress to alter their preloved top designer dresses and they are happy for me to join the team.  The brides will be bringing their dresses to me, I will be doing the fittings in my sewing room and will be able to take on as much work as suits me so I'm thrilled to bits......so I may well be sharing some really posh frocks with you some time soon.....I'm doing a happy dance here and hope you will all feel excited for me.

Warning for those buying Wedding or Bridesmaid's dresses...

I have had a lot of experience over the past few months of ladies ordering dresses over the Internet for Weddings......be it Wedding dresses or Bridesmaid's dresses.

There are many companies out there that appear to be offering made to measure dresses in that they ask you to fill in forms with all the body measurements on for the person involved. When the dresses arrive they rarely fit as expected. What a lot of the online companies usually do is look at the measurements and for example if the bridesmaid is a size 10 bust and a size 12 hips then they send you a size 12 dress [obviously you wouldn't get a size 12 hips in a size 10 dress]. This usually means the dress is too big over the bust and then needs altering. This is what I do and I don't have a problem with it but I have had so many young brides here lately really disappointed that their "made to measure" dresses don't fit.
The pretty little dresses I showed you the photo of on Wednesday are a prime example because these are for 4 girls between the ages of approx 8 and 12. Their body measurements obviously come into the adult bust sizes so the dresses have added shaping to accommodate a bust and are also too long in the bodice for children. This, of course, means they need an awful lot of alterations to make then fit so the girls look like the little princesses they were hoping for and of course all the disappointment that comes with the extra expense involved.
Please take my advise and check that the company you are ordering from really do make your dresses to order taking all the measurements and actually making your dresses as you hope.

Remember if the price of the dresses seems too good to be true is probably because they are. I hope this saves you a lot of disappointment.
