Not the best of days...

Yesterday was a sad day for us.  We not only attended the funeral of a good friend who was usher at our wedding 30 years ago but our little friend Skye had to be put to sleep. The funeral was probably the most beautiful I have even been to.  Our Crematorium was full to the rafters and there were many stood outside. He was carried in in a beautiful wicker coffin, the music was very special and many beautiful words were spoken....he had touched many lives.

Our little friend Skye was 14 1/2 years old and had been a very loyal little friend.  She suddenly became unwell in the morning and just got worse throughout the day.  On examination the vet said she had a heart murmur and a growth in her liver and was obviously in pain so we made the only decision we could make.....you will be missed my little friend.

WOYWW...

Another stolen week and it's Wednesday again. Where do they all go? Well this week I have only a couple of jobs to do this morning because I finished shortening the 4 pair of curtains I had to do yesterday. Today I just have one skirt to shorten and a pair of jeans to do patch and darn on the one knee. I hope to soon get these jobs out of the way so I can dumf later. [Bet I have customers who think otherwise though :-) ]

I have decided to prepare a canvas with Crayola fabric crayons for a change. It's much better to work on a coloured background than on a white one. For those that have never used these crayons before the idea is to do your design onto a piece of clean paper, turn this over onto your canvas and iron the design on.

It doesn't have to be perfect because I shall be covering this with wool rovings, threads and dumfling gorgeousness :-)

This is my table covered with all the fab new stash we bought at the Woolfest and I'm planning to make use of at least some of these today. I'm in the mood for a field of poppies :-)

Now lastly I feel the need to show and tell some of the magic going on outside in our garden....

These are a row of beetroot emerging. These will be used to make scrummy beetroot chutneys and pickles later in the year.

Little potato plants are starting to show so with a lot of water and just a bit of luck we should have yummy new potatoes before very long :-)

Down the very bottom of our garden we have a wild life area with a bird hide and at the mo it is a real picture with all it's wild flowers. These are of course Forget-me-nots...My Dad's favourite flower and it would have been his Birthday this month.

Even dandelions look wonderful when in an area where they are allowed to grow.

I couldn't resist snapping this Bridal veil plant but I see our 'old lady' Skye felt the need of posing for a picture too. She saw me out with the camera and ran in and sat down just as I was taking the picture :-)

For those that haven't seen my previous blog. We launched the Wedding shelf in our blog shop Monday and would really appreciate you all to pop over and take a look and leave us a comment as to what you think of it all. Any new ideas or special requests would be very welcome.

I hope you all have a brill Wednesday and will all pop over to Julia's to join in the fun of showing us your workspace.

For those keeping up with Paula's progress....She was in rather a lot of pain last night and although the Dr said she could go home she very sensibly declined the offer. I do feel these Dr's like to push patients home too soon at times. I haven't heard from her yet this morning but I will update her blog if I get any more news.

Brrrrrr it's a WOYWW...

Ooer we had a lots of snow in the night and this morning this is the view that greeted me. This is looking out through my sewing room window and that is the path my customers have to take to get to me so I doubt I will get many visitors today. It's not a bad thing because I already have sewing jobs to do and should be able to get these out of the way while I'm not being disturbed by customers.

I have a brown waxed coat to shorten and a new zip to put in the blue jacket.

The working trousers that are sitting here on my table are needing new zips and repairs to ripped seams. You can also see the now finished and framed flower picture I have used for my header. I'm rather pleased with it. :-)

This is the view from the back of our house and as you can see from the little footprints it's where our dogs run and play. It's a north facing garden and has been frosted, hard and crisp for what seems like weeks now.
The result of the hard ground is this. Skye is our old lady and she has sore feet from walking on the ice. [She went from having one blue foot to two red feet :-) ] She has needed several visits to the vets to have her feet dressed, injections and antibiotics so no doubt we will need a second mortgage to settle the bill when her treatment is complete :-( I think she rather likes her new socks.

Now pop over to Julia's blog and join in the fun by showing us what you have on your workdesk today.

My guard dogs...

Thought I'd introduce you to the old lady in our 'family'. This is Skye. She is an 11yr old Cairn terrier and such a character. She is sitting on the wall by the road waiting for 'the boss' to come home from work.

We have 3 Cairn terriers but this one came first. She was 5 before we decided she would like company and went to buy another. We paid a visit to the new litter of pups and having already decided that we wanted a little bitch we made our choice...Wispa. [Their mum's name was Cadbury so chocolate bar names seemed the obvious choice] Whilst there Rocky chose us. He sat on hubby's foot the whole time we were there. When we collected Wispa Rocky did the same again but our minds were made up...it was to be the little bitch. We took Wispa home and promised to ring the breeder 2 weeks later with an update. We had the 2 weeks settling in our newcomer and made the phone call. The rest of the litter had gone to their new homes all bar one....Yes you guessed it...Rocky. My other half insists I said he was to be put to sleep if no home was to be found but would I? :-) We jumped in the car and fetched our new little boy....he was half price after all!
Rocky enjoying some sun

They are all such different characters. Rocky is head of the pack [being the man], next in line is Skye [being the matriarch] and finally the under dog is Wispa. They even pee in order. Where Wispa goes Skye follows and finally Rocky has to leave his scent .
A typical submissive pose from Wispa

Wispa is quiet and submissive and a real darling who will play fetch all day but is the one who carries extra weight...life just isn't fair. Rocky is a real mummy's boy...he is kind, gentle and licky but lazy....he is happy to take the ball off Wispa when just 3 foot from you and pretend he has fetched it from the bottom of the garden. Skye watches the 'pups' [actually now much bigger than her and 6 yrs old] activities but prefers not to join in the ball fetching...that's for kids! She will still play like a puppy at times but has definitely slowed up and prefers to sit and watch.
