WOYWW

Good morning all my fellow WOYWWers. Hope you're all having a great week and aren't too effected by the volcanic dust. I've managed to get all my business book work up to date [getting ready for doing the tax end of year!] and now have 955 customers so it looks like it's not keeping customers from my door. :-)

It's been another great start to the week for me. Funday Monday was especially special because Paula joined us via web cam [and we had a really fun afternoon]. It's brilliant to think that, thanks to the wonderful Queen of snoop Julia, so many friendships have been made and I am certain a lot of them wont be just 5 minute wonders. We all seem to have so much in common and isn't it lovely how crafters are willing to share their ideas? We all have so many skills between us that I am sure we are all benefiting from seeing what others are capable of.....Paula is now sewing and dumfing!!!!! So, beware, it is contagious :-)

I have a mess to show you this week [and no it's not the mess you saw on Monday Paula....but of course you won't tell all my secrets :-) ].

This is my mess today. I have tipped out all my ribbons onto my table ready to sort them. You wouldn't believe all those came out of 3 sweetie jars would you? Over the years they have got very mixed up and it's not easy to find a particular length or colour when making items for the Wedding/Bridal shelf in the shop. This is definitely a 'got to do' job for today!

This is a job I did yesterday. It's a purple Wedding dress. I'm only sharing the top with you so you can see the colour [detail is kept secret]. The bride looks really lovely in the dress cos she has lovely dark hair and plans to have a little flower girl in ivory with a little purple detail to match the wedding dress.

Today I have another posh evening dress to alter and then it's sorting ribbons for me. What are you up to today? Don't forget to pop over to Julia's and join in the fun......

........Oh and remember I may be watching you :-)

11.25....A quick update...

Just to show you all how much better all those ribbons look now they are all sorted :-) Bet I can find just what I am looking for now :-)

the only webcam I have is the little one built into the top of my laptop - OK for Skyping but now much use for spying...

Have fun sorting your ribbons. The dress colour is fantastic.

Are you on Skype Annie?
I think we should all get hooked up! We really could have a serious snoop that way. When my daughter was having a loft conversion, she and Daisy stayed with us and when her husband got home each evening, he walked around the loft with the laptop, so we could see the day's progress!
As ever in awe of your talents!

Hey Wips - I left a comment ages ago and it didn't save it - have you banned me??? That web cam looks a bit threatening "Big Sister is watching you!"
Hehe word verif....
nylogra - wonder what that does then????

I was going to say the same as twiglet - but she stole my words...LOL

Annie - coming to a craft room near you!!! Its a bit like Noels houseparty - but we had more fun...

you got all that ribbin in 3 jars - i thought it was the contents of your hoover bag when i first saw it - yes folks - I even watched Annie hoover up the floor when funday monday was over - the things you can do with a webcam eh? All in good taste of course!!!

It's strange isn't it how there is a fine line between 'ooo look at all those gorgeous ribbons' and 'OMG I really need to sort that tangled mess out'! Yes I have been there recently!

Well done on having so many customers. I wish you lived closer as we could do with someone like you xxx

When I saw your ribbons I thought "oh no - what a job you have on your hands", but then you had done them". I should have known it wouldn't be a difficult task for you. Me, I would have still been looking at them! Lovely dress, a bit more interesting than your trousers. All those customers confirm - you are indeed a great seamstress! ikki x

I struggle with my ribbon storage, so I don't envy you the task. Looks like you know what works for you.

You are quite the seamstress. I love the wedding dress. Can't wait to see it in full length.

Have a very happy WOYWW.

Sounds like you all had a great funday on Monday!

Well done on sorting all of your ribbons, isnt it great when its done!

Such a beautiful rich purple dress youve made, Im sure the bride looks absolutely stunning in it. Its nice that there are such choices these days for all brides. In our day it was white or cream!

I must contact you for some advice on some fabric. My youngest has chosen coral as her wedding colour and you can imagine the fun IM having trying to find the colour!!

All those ribbons!! I've got some beading to do on my daugters prom dress, it arrived from shanghai last week minus all the beading around the waist/hip and a I didn't want to send it back all that way they are sending me the beads to do it myself!

Wipso Now I know why you were interested in my ribbon storage. I also use plastic jars and tie hangers and a strange contraption I devised years sgo. I saw a great idea on the web using wire coathangers but haven't tried it. Do you do wwet or dry feltin and where do you get your wool?HugsBettyXXX

Doesn't it feel AWESOME to have all of those ribbons nicely organized? It took FOREVER to go thru mine - I wish I had photos of the bags and bags of stuff I had to go through! Looks like you have your hands in a little bit of everything this week - best of luck on all of your projects!

What! are we supposed to sort our ribbons, I'd put them back in the jars. LOL
My old next door neighbour (yes on both accounts she's now in her 70's and still sewing) was a seamstress and she made my wedding and bridesmaid dresses 17yrs ago and my daughter many outfits, we used to often nip next door for some oooing and arrrhhhing over her creations.
The colour is gorgeous and am sure the rest is as stunning too.

Bettythebaglady said...

Wipso I've done some wet felting but I'm taken by the dry kind (in small amounts for cards mostly). I bought a lot of wool but it's really for wwet felting and is very slow to needle felt with by hand. Only a beginner but did go on a fab course last year in the lake district. Lost my impetus when I came home and haven't had much of a do since. Things have been a bit awkward at home for crafting anyway since. Sorry about that Arthur -gets around a bit doesn't he? Love BettyXXX

Wipso, what a fabulous name! Really enjoyed reading your life journey too - so important to bring up children and now it's your time for business.

Ribbons have this habit of growing all around you, don't they? Do they reproduce? It matters not how tidy you think they are...which will be my topic next week, I think. I have a little wheeze...

Thanks for popping in so soon!

Hey there!! I sometimes think us crafters spend more time organising and sorting than we do actually making!! Well done on sorting your ribbons!! You are so right about the friendship thing - they often spring where you least expect them in this game - and to get together via technology too, brilliant!!

Felted House said...

I just think it's so great that you have contact and friendship via web-cam! I think I'd chatter too much if I had someone to talk to, but then I know you and Twiglet can be very productive together so you must have perfected the art of socialising and dunfing! Archie would LOVE those ribbons - he's actually learnt which jar I've put his bits of ribbon and string in and I caught him breaking into that as well last night and fishing out a feather attached to a long bit of string! xx

Minxy said...

Cor i bet that was a job and a half sorting all those ribbons, well done you.
Still not played with felt in ages but am detirmined to make something soon, your blog always makes me wanna play but i've never the time!

Unknown said...

just a question - how have you catagorised those ribbons - texture or length - cos it doesn't look like its colour LOL!!!

Answers on a post card!!!
