It's been a different kind of week this week for me.
On Friday I met up with two school friends for coffee, one I've known for 64 years and the other 58 years [seems like a life time :-) ]. It was so lovely catching up....they really haven't changed a bit apart from, like me, getting older and as I always say only the lucky ones get there.
I wanted to take then each a little home made gift so I made them both a covered book. I used applique, free machining, and machine embroidery and was pleased how they turned out.
They both loved them too.
On Monday we went to an Aunty's funeral. She had had a long life, dying at 96 so it was more a celebration of her life really and it was really lovely catching up with our cousins. It's always sad that these events seem to be the only time we get to see some of them.

How lovely to catch up with long time friends, I bet they loved those books, so pretty! And that must have been a good funeral celebrating your aunt’s life, a good age well lived. Those fabrics are very pretty, she did you a good mixed range there, you’ll enjoy working with those!

It's lovely to catch up with old friends and the fabric book covers are beautiful who wouldn't love one of those, you clever lady. I'm with you, funerals do seem to be the only time people get together which is a great shame but 96 is a good age. Seems like ages since we all got together. Look forward to seeing how you use the new fabrics. Happy woyww, hugs Angela x7x
Happy knitting-day WOYWW!
Love your book covers! Yep, 96 is a good long life, and a celebration of life lessens the sting of loss, a little at least. Your ditzy fabric will be great fun to use - enjoy!

What lovely gifts for your friends. I love the idea of just asking for a selection of fabrics-you are right that it takes you right out if your comfort zone. Happy sewing. Catriona
Hello Annie, I wrote up a long comment and promptly lost it. So, here's the abbreviated version in the hope nothing goes wrong this time. The book covers are beautiful and make a wonderful gift for your friends. So sad about your aunty but 96 is a great age to reach. A life worth celebrating indeed. Love the fat quarters - such a good idea to ask the supplier to choose them for you. Opening the package must be a bit like getting your Christmas early. Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Ellie x #11
The books were a lovely gift idea and the fat quarters are really pretty. Hugs Angela #9

Such a lovely thing, to catch up with old friends. The books your made for them were beautiful. Your father quarters stash looks tempting too.
Happy WOYWW

A Surpriise visit....Always fun to see your makes...Glad you had time to spend with school friends...Several of us call each other once a month, we all live long distances away and none like to drive too far anymore. Most are in their 80's now Our August weather has been very HOT and HUMID....but thankful for no Wind. USA has had lots of distructive weather East/West Coasts but Iowa has had much needed rains for crops and I just stay in air conditioning as Humidy is bad for me...My Blog will not let me post photos, researching 1 yr and found no way. So don't use it much. Wishing You and Yours the Very best.
