Its a conveyor belt type sewing post for this week. One of my customers asked me to make her some face masks as she was struggling to buy any for her family so I made a few and put them on my Sewing by Annie Facebook page....within a couple of hours I'd sold them all and requests were coming in fast and furious so I've spent my week delving into my stash and doing my best to keep up with demand....it's been rather hectic but I'm buzzing.
I have a system worked out where I iron all the fabrics first [or my darling hubby irons them for me] then I cut out all the required sizes [I've made batches of adult and children sized masks]. I then cut all the elastics for each one and pin them in place on one side of the mask. I back each one in a contrasting/matching fabric and sew around each one before turning right sides out, pleating each one and sewing around a further twice to securely hold everything in place....what fun I've been having. I have posted out many orders and others have been collected by local customers while they have been on their daily walks with a strictly contactless transaction....what a hoot!
I'm really missing the friendly interaction I have with my customers but in these difficult times we can do anything if only we try.
I'm pleased to report that Elizabeth is making good steady improvement each day. Her husband, Alan is making slower progress as he is still convalesing from his surgery too but he's gradually moving in the right direction ....so keep those positive vibes heading their way folk and we will get them there.
Hugs,
Annie x
Good news about Elizabeth and Alan, sending healing hugs (I did see that Elizabeth had looked at FB yesterday so was hopeful of recovery) Loving all the masks you have set out to make, what a fabulous job. Take care and stay safe. Helen #?
ReplyDeleteLove all the masks let's hope people wear them, think they are more likely to when made with jazzy material. Keep up the good work. Ani
ReplyDeleteI knew that massive stash would come in useful one day - I bet you have to stroke them all before you get cutting though! Keep the Mahoosive Mask company going!!! xxx Jo
ReplyDeleteSO glad to hear that Elizabeth and Alan are heading in the right direction Annie. Brilliant face masks. I have a load of fat quarters in my cupboard which will be coming out if they become compulsory. No elastic, but I do have plenty of ribbon to make ties instead. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #6
ReplyDeleteGreat news about E & A, phew, what a relief. Thanks for the mask pattern, it's really useful!

Morning Annie
ReplyDeleteI'm in face mask production too. All that quilting fabric is coming in very handy.
It's nice to be doing our bit isn't it, even if it's in a small way.
Have a good week and stay safe

You have been keeping busy and it’s great to have a helper. I managed to make two masks this morning for our daughter who is doing our shopping-thank you for the advice. Famtastic sunny weather here now and Norrie has cleaned and oiled all our decking which now looks fantastic. Catriona

Hi Annie. So pleased to hear the news about Elizabeth and Alan. That's really encouraging - for us as well as them!! My word - you have been manically busy this week - well done. Your poor sewing machine will be ready for a day or so's break by the time this is over.

Thank you for the heads up re Elizabeth and Alan - what a difficult time for them both. You are amazing with all those face masks - I'm afraid I've been looking at the no sew versions as an option!! Life will certainly be colourful if everyone starts to wear all the jolly home made ones I've seen around the web. I am very impressed! Stay Safe, Stay well, Happy WOYWW Cindy #18
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of fabrics and not surprised they are selling so well, people are starting to realise that they are a good idea despite what the government were trying to tell us. Have a lovely crafty week and a happy woyww, Angela x17x
ReplyDeleteWell done for making the masks....my idea fizzled out or got overtaken by making watercolours. I love being outside in the garden during this lockdown phase. Thank goodness for technology that you can still participate in some way in your grandees birthday. Stay safe and keep sewing.
